Arranging Rules I Deliberately Ignore
No floral foam, no wire, no counting stems to hit an odd number. Here is why I skip the rules I keep reading about, and the one time I actually tried following them properly.

Two arrangements, one bucket of flowers, two completely different approaches. Stem count, structure, and even which flowers belong where change once you move from a small jar to a big jug.
My table seats two comfortably and needs to survive plates, mugs, and the occasional laptop. Here is how height, scale, and one toppled bud vase taught me to arrange for a room this small.
I counted stems, graduated the heights, and did everything the proper way for a friend’s dinner. What came out of it was technically correct and completely lifeless, and it taught me something.
My only proper vase mostly sits empty in a cupboard. The jam jars, a milk pitcher, and even a drinking glass do most of the real work, and one old tin taught me a soggy lesson.
No sorting, no plan, no clean towel of prepped stems. Just what actually happens at my kitchen table when I’m putting a bunch of flowers into a jug, mistakes included.
